[MCP] "special rights"

i remember hearing that the religious right pushed videos and other materials in black churches that promoted the "gay rights are special rights" idea.? it was my understanding that this terminology, initiated by the religious right, gained a foothold and great credence in black religious communities.? has anyone else heard this?? does anyone have a source on this?
