I am working on my dissertation and comps at the present moment. I have a
question that I need your expertise to guide me in the correct
direction. My dissertation is directed towards *ways that
teacher education programs include diversity in their
curricula and what does the research say about the effectiveness of
these approaches".
After much reading!!!!!!One thing I am noticing is that with the introduction of NCLB mandates for schools, educators, and teacher preparation institutes, the mention of "Multicultural Education" is declining. With regards to diversity all I can find is "Preparing teacher candidates to work with _*all*_ students" or a highly qualified teacher can work with diversity. The term ME or the premise and goals of it are not being addressed. Am I just tired (reading and typing) and not seeing it or is the term being changed or ....help? Is this a trend? I know of NCATEs Standards and definitions, but that is only for those institutions that are accredited.
Looking at our new "Georgia" elementary school SS standards, I realized they included a standard in each grade level to know about a historical figure - usually including an
African American, Woman, and Native American. (Is this it????) I am getting worried.
**My interpretation is */becoming/* that legislators believe they are
"addressing" diversity through NCLB so they do not need to discuss
diversity (except because "those" children learn differently you need to
have an expanded pedagogy). Look at the message being implied to teachers -- those kids.
Could you help?
