[MCP] Temporary "Rule" for the Listserv

Paul,

Thank you very much for the clarification. I too am new to the listserv. However, I am a strong proponent for multicultural education and am thrilled to have an outlet to discuss my questions and concerns about the institutionally divisive measures being taken in our schools, all in the name of unity. But when I read your "questions" email I initially felt that your judgements of people's comments were inappropriate. As an educator I feel that "simple" comments and uninformed questions should not be judged and rejected, but accepted and guided. Now that I have learned of the listserv's intent, however, I can understand your frustration (and I'm sure this is not the first time you have had to address this issue). So, I am looking forward to participating in this listserv and THRILLED that my mailbox will not be full every five minutes (I thought that was the norm and was reconsidering my participation.).

And FYI, next month I am leading my graduate school classmates through a class on multicultural education using Sonia Nieto's, The Light in THeir Eyes. I plan on introducing my class to your listserv. Our graduate program is preparing us to work with diverse learners as educators and advocates, and many of us are already looking for fellow activists to communicate with once we graduate.

  Thank you for your committment.

      Hello, all.

The number of posts is getting a bit out of control the past few days, causing many people who have subscribed for many years to flee the list.

So, here is my solution: Until things slow down a bit you can post no more than hree messages per day. This may mean that once a conversation becomes a back-and-forth between two people (so you don't notice other people engaging in your conversation), you'll have to move it off the list and have it privately.

Also, please review the description of this list so that you better understand its purpose: The purpose of MCP (shorthand for "Multicultural Pavilion") is to facilitate dialogue and the exchange of resources among educators, students, and activists dedicated to multicultural education, educational equity, and social justice.

I remind you that this is not a listserv that is meant to host debates about whether or not inequities exist, whether or not multicultural education is a good thing, and so on. It's a listserv that is meant to provide an opportunity for people who dedicated to multicultural education, educational equity, and social justice.

I don't say this to chase anybody away. But I say this because this list was initially created when folks wanted to break away from another multicultural education listserv that focused on the "beginning" conversations. As the person who founded this list and who has been facilitating it for seven or eight years now, I feel a responsibility to honor that spirit.

  Thanks,

  Paul
