[MCP] School bullying turns gay teens off education

There's nothing particularly startling about this news, except for perhaps the critical fact that it seems no administrative heads are rolling for failing to protect students from harassment in their places of education which require an absolute fundamental guarantee of safety for all students. It really shocks me because I had thought laws were changing, especially after the 1994 report of the American Association of University Women on harassment in schools, in which it was similarly stated by some 87 percent of students they were more afraid of being called faggot or lesbian than of being beaten up (since obviously worse than getting beaten up "merely" could be the consequence of the insult sticking.

Straight-gay alliances are essential to bring this to an end, but particularly parents of bullies and administrations which don't have dire consequences for bullies need serious remediation. Our society's got no moral backbone as long as we tolerate anybody making a victim, target of scapegoating or ridicule of anybody else. Without laws and enforcement of them to protect every single individual person who is perceived as member of any minority, it's de Tocqueville's naightmare of the tyranny of the majority and to hell with the lot of us.

As long as the privileged don't stand up to the deceptions of exclusivist entitlements, be it white, male, heterosexual, "successful" adult, able-bodied, home-dwelling, etc., none of us in any of these categories is really earning the respect a human being should be worthy of, and all our "earnings" and titles are a pathetic joke of unearned self-glorifying cant. Patriarchy is making of all of us fools who cannot say what is as plain as the noses on our faces-- when an emperor is naked, that's it, the bums' bloody naked, and the tailors have made off with the commonwealth.
